Well, that was disappointing. Jozea got tipped off before the show that he was going, so the hoped for shock and awe, never materialized. Jozea just obediently marched out of the house and behaved himself. Paul and Victor didn't punch anyone in the face. There was no open mouthed shock at the eviction. Other than Jozea's naive belief that Davonne and Zakiyah were still loyal and Bronte and Natalie had flipped, nothing too surprising emerged.
Now for the first five evictions, the evicted house guests will battle it out until only one remains. The name of the new competition is the "Battle Back." This sounds like it will work out much like Last Chance Kitchen on Top Chef. Up first will be Glenn versus Jozea. The winner of that will stay in sequester and then battle it out with whoever is evicted next week. We won't see any of these comps until a special Friday night edition of Big Brother on July 22nd, but the loser each week should become pretty apparent by their return to the real world. For Jozea to make it back in he'll have to win four comps in a row. That could prove a tad challenging for him.
After Jozea's disappointingly undramatic exit, the HOH comp started. (It looks like the show was pre-taped by an hour or so as we saw none of the comp on the feeds and when they turned on the feeds after about fifty minutes or so, the house guests were all inside, cookie making was well underway, and everyone was chilling. The house had the look of the house an hour or so after a comp ends. In the comp house guests had to walk across a balance beam type setup to retrieve balls. As expected, James threw the comp so his team wouldn't win so Victor, Bronte and Natalie would be eligible for nomination. Natalie fell first when she got distracted by Julie's voice over the intercom. James then fell off the log which meant the team's balls were lost and James was out of the comp. Nicole told him his fall looked very realistic, but Victor knows he threw the comp and is unhappy about it.
Paulie ended up winning the comp for Frank's team. Paulie and Michelle were both wanting the HOH, but the decision was made that since Paulie is better at physical comps and Michelle at mental comps and they haven't had any mental comps yet, they'd let Paulie have the HOH this week and save Michelle for next week in case it was a mental comp. Paulie's assured the Eight Pack that he's still with them and one of the four who voted for him to leave (Paul, Victor, Natalie or Bronte) will be getting evicted this week.
Frank and Tiffany tried to mend their rift from the other night and that seems a little bit more patched up but Davonne is still worried that Tiffany spends too much time with the other people in the house and may not be telling her everything everyone else in the house is saying. Davonne is just a paranoid mess.
Bronte has finally done the math and figured out that nine on the other side (James, Frank, Paulie, Nicole, Davonne, Zakiyah, Corey, Michelle, Tiffany) beats her five (Bronte, Natalie, Bridgette, Victor, and Paul) and has told Natalie that she can swallow her pride and join the other side. There's just one little problem for Bronte. I'm pretty sure the other side doesn't want her, just Natalie and maybe Bridgette.
Paul and Victor, after spending much of the evening sulking in their beds and fuming that they got played by Davonne and Zakiyah and the rest, finally trudged up to Paulie's HOH room to have a chat about maybe joining up with Paulie and turning the game around. They tried the old, "Hey, we're all newbies and we should stick together" routine and followed that up with "The girls will control the house if we don't start getting rid of them" routine, but Paulie wasn't buying. He knows they voted him out and he was a newbie and a guy, so their argument to save the newbies and the guys didn't work.
Who will Paulie nominate for eviction? It will be some combination of the four who voted to evict him. They're debating whether backdooring Victor would be more effective, or just nominating him. They run the risk of Victor getting to play in the POV and winning it and saving Paul if they try to backdoor Victor. Then they'd just get to flush out Bronte which would be fine with Nicole as Bronte is her number one target. We'll find out later today who gets the nomination. Paulie wants Victor gone this week though.
Later today we'll get the nominations and then the Road Kill comp. That all has to take place before tomorrow's picking of the veto players and POV comp. They'll likely have the house up by one-ish (ET) and the naming of the nominees shortly after that. Then they'll have the Road Kill comp and call the participants into the DR one by one afterwards until the winner is identified and selects his/her victim. The Road Kill comp is kind of clever since all they have to do is some minimal stage dressing and drive in the RV. Since the whole comp takes place inside the RV it has a minimal impact on their ability to get the yard ready for the POV comp tomorrow. They just wheel the RV out after the comp and prepare the yard for the POV comp.
The house is disappointingly calm right now. There's a bit of scrambling to realign the alliances, but nothing overly major looks imminent. Natalie might be absorbed by the Eight Pack for a while, but that's about all. The Eight Pack plus Paulie still looks pretty solid. I'd be surprised to see anything big change now. Paul and Victor expect to be nominated so they won't freak out when it happens. Paulie is intent on someone who voted against him (Paul, Victor, Natalie or Bronte) heading out the door. I don't see that changing. I'm still thinking we'll see a larger girls alliance emerge from all of this.Natalie and Bridgette seem pretty flexible and are both on decent terms with the rest of the girls. If another guy goes this week, and that's likely with both Paul and Victor as likely targets, then the girls will have a three person edge over the guys and they may exploit that if a girl wins HOH.
